Sydney of The Antarctic teacher’s notes

I’ve produced a six-page set of teacher’s notes to accompany Sydney of the Antarctic.
Designed to stimulate imagination and provide a foundation for creative writing and drawing, they include classroom activities for young children and for older students.
There is an outline of the book, the ‘Missing’ poster I drew when Sydney was lost, a postcard for students to send to or from Sydney and ‘Can you find?’ questions from the book.
It’s a PDF and you can download it here. You may print one per class and photocopy it under the usual copying conventions.

Dear Coral,
I am having a ball at Magnetic island in Queensland , Australia.
I’m sitting under the shade of a palm tree at Elms Bay enjoying a wonderful ice-cream befor I go for a swim.
I,m quickly typing this letter on a tourists lap top. It’s ok though because they ‘ve gone for a swim and left it and the mango ice-cream behind.
I will come home soon, I promise I’ve just got to see a few places first. I’m thinking of swimming half of the way home and letting the sea drift me back the other half.
When I come back I can’t wait to tell you about all the cool places that ive been like Jamaica, France, Africa, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Zealand, Canada and all the rest of those amazing places.
See you soon love Sydney.
Dear Coral,
I heard about something called a circus in Hobart (Tasmania) and decided to come and see.
I’ve had enough of the big smelly teeth on big smelly cats. Anyway, their teeth are always worse every time.
I’m sorry that I haven’t got back to you yet but I’ve been having a ball at the circus. It’s so funny.
Anyway, in Hobart I heard about a school called Peregrine going to see you, Coral, you. So, as you probably guessed, I got all excited and ran as fast as I could.
But by the time I got there the big building (library)was closed. This was the saddest Monday of my life. I also found a poster that said: “REWARD FOR RETURN OF SYDNEY”. I went to the port and got on a ship called The Aurora Australis and headed for who knows where.
Love Sydney
PS: Update soon
I hope you find Sydney.
miss ya kiss ya!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the good work.
