Coral Tulloch

Coral was born in Melbourne, in 1956 and now lives in Hobart, Tasmania, with her husband Peter and daughter Tully.

A history in promotion and illustration in newspapers led her to create a syndicated, page for children, The Tales Of Wombat Creek which appeared for over 20 years in newspapers throughout Australia and internationally.

During this time she also studied fine art at East Sydney Technical College, Animation at Randwick Technical College, and had periods at studios, drawing in Florence, Italy and in lithography at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. She continued with work in advertising, film, theatre and magazine production, but her main focus remained with children’s literature.

She has worked in both fiction and non fiction on over 50 books for children, both for trade and educational publishers in Australia and internationally.

With a continued passion in environmental education she was accepted for a voyage to the Antarctic continent and Subantarctic in 1999, as an Antarctic Arts Fellow with the Australian Antarctic Division.

She has produced several works from this experience and researched, wrote, produced initial design and illustrated her factual work on Antarctica, Antarctica, The Heart Of The World (ABC Books), which won the Environment Award for Children’s Literature in 2004.

Her love of Antarctica has continued, with several voyages as artist-in-residence with Quark Expeditions, through Theme Media, creating journals, exhibiting and with the release of the picture book Sydney of the Antarctic (ABC Books) in October 2007.

She is currently working as co-author/illustrator with Alison Lester on a new picture book on Macquarie Island (Penguin Books) due for release in 2009.
